When Debra Geihsler abruptly resigned on Feb. 14 as head of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and its parent, Atrius Health, the official reason given was that she clashed with the board of trustees over ways to implement long-term growth.
It turns out disagreements over both personnel decisions and other matters also helped fuel her departure.
A source familiar with the situation said that board members, at least in part, were unhappy with "a couple of resignations" from employees who departed Harvard Vanguard after Geihsler came on board who "were viewed as valuable people."
In addition, the source said that Geihsler found herself in an ambiguous situation trying to be both CEO of Harvard Vanguard and the newly formed Atrius, the parent corporation that includes four other much smaller physician practices with potentially different needs.
