Vollee hopes to bring Second Life to mobile phones

The creators of popular online worlds Second Life are opening their world to a new wireless application developer Vollee which will allow players to enjoy their games on their on cell phones.
According to Vollee's website, their technology allows companies to stream their games on any 3G phone. Basically, Vollee works like any other online streaming video service. The actual gameplay, graphics and AI processes are calculated by computers on Vollee's end, so the application should be able to run on most cellphones.
Vollee will also optimize control schemes to better suit the limited control schemes provided my most mobile phones. A tabbed system will allow gamers to switch between chat and gameplay simply and easily.
The story won't be so great with Canadian users however. Data plans are obscenely expensive in Canada, and Vollee is extremely data-intensive. Also most carriers in Canada don't support the 3G standard and 3G phones have trickled to the market.
Beta signups for Second Life are open now, and testing will begin in May. Expect new games to be announced for the service in the coming months.
